Srinagar: A high-level investigation is underway into the assassination of Punjab born jeweller Satpal Nischal here last month so that his killers are brought to justice very soon, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha said Wednesday.
Sinha, who arrived here on Wednesday, visited Satpal’s family and expressed solidarity with them, an official spokesperson said.
Strongly condemning the killing, the LG said that a high-level investigation has already been initiated and assured the family members that culprits involved in this heinous act of violence will be brought to justice very soon. He paid condolences to the family members of the deceased and said that such “despicable and cowardly act will not go unpunished”.
“The LG was briefed by the family members that their family is residing in Kashmir for the last 50 years and during this long period, they are living with local people with very cordial relations,” the official spokesperson said.
The LG was accompanied by BVR Subrahmanyam, Chief Secretary; Pandurang K. Pole, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir; Vijay Kumar, IGP Kashmir, and Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar.
70-year-old Satpal Nischal, born and brought up in Punjab, was shot dead by suspected bike-borne militants near his shop at Saraibala here on December 31, months after he purchased it after obtaining a domicile certificate. He had received three gunshot wounds in chest and died before making it to Srinagar’s SMHS hospital for treatment.
The Resistance Front (TRF) claimed responsibility for killing Satpal, hours after the shootout. The statement of militant outfit went viral on the social media in which it threatened that “any Indian national irrespective of faith, caste or colour who comes to Kashmir with the intention of settling here, will be treated as an agent of RSS and not as a civilian”
