Kargil: The Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA), Saturday distanced itself from the agenda of Apex Body and stated both are working on two different directions while KDA is clear about the restoration of Article 370, 35A and full-fledged state for Ladakh.
The KDA said that they have two common points with Peoples’ Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) and “our discussion with their visiting delegation was result-oriented and KDA became part (Party) of the case filed before the Supreme Court of India.”
Addressing a news conference in Kargil, the regions senior leader and former minister, Qamar Ali Akhoon said that the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) in its initial agenda has mentioned the restoration of Article 370 and 35A and a full-fledged statehood for Ladakh.
He said that “We’ve already discussed our agenda with the delegation of Gupkar Alliance and at two points both the groups have cooperated and decided to go further together. The two common points include the restoration of Article 370, 35A and to be a party at the Supreme Court”, he said.
Akhoon said that the Apex Body formed in Leh also discussed the agenda with them and “We told them about our demand of full-fledged state to Ladakh while they’ve met the Union Home Minister and made the decision and discussion of meeting public which is known to all.”
Maintaining that only Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) will do the true representation of Kargil, Qamar Ali said that the KDA managed to evoke a response from all sides including all the stakeholders and people who have joined us who know about the agenda KDA works for.
He said that both Apex Body and KDA have been formed who work on two separate agenda’s and KDA will continue to fight for the rights of Ladakh.
Refuting the allegations leveled by the BIP Kargil unit about observing the first anniversary of bifurcation as Blak Day, Asgar Karbalai said that the letter addressed to the BJP unit had an invitation-only and there was no mention about the Black Day rather only future course of action was scheduled to be discussed given the situation in the region.
He maintained that the people wanted the day to be observed as Black Day, adding that the strength of KDA got visible since not only political but students, social and religious including other bodies have joined hands with them.
Reacting over the meeting of the Apex Body with the Union Minister Amit Shah, he said that the meeting was only Leh centric and the government has formed a committee to look into the demands. “Now in case Kargil Democratic Alliance receives an invitation it would love to talk to the Home Minister and present the agenda before him”, he said.
To a query about the rotational basis for the LG office of Ladakh, he said for all such issues and rights KDA has been formed and everything will be raised well on time.
It may be recalled that the Apex Body was formed in Leh days ahead of the LAHDC elections which called for the complete poll boycott demanding the 6th schedule for the region to protect the region’s culture, land, jobs, language, and other significance it holds including the rich tradition. The Apex Body later withdrew the boycott call after meeting the home minister Amit Shah in Delhi last year and were assured about another meeting soon after the elections in the region ended. The Apex Body earlier on January 06 met the home minister in New Delhi who ordered the formation of a committee led by GK Reddy to look into the inclusion of Ladakh into the 6th schedule.
While the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA), formed in Kargil ever since the formation demanded the restoration of Article 370, 35A and a full-fledged state for Ladakh and also joined the PAGD led by former Chief Minister of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, Farooq Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti.
The BJP led Union government bifurcated the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir into two separate union territories of which Ladakh was carved as a separate Union Territory on August 05 in 2019.—(KNO)
