Srinagar: An ailing man died in south Kashmir’s Shopian district after his family made a desperate attempt to shift him to the hospital on a cot through snow covered roads.
Bashir Ahmad Famda son of Abdul Rehman, a resident of Batafujan Keller area of the district developed some complications at his home, a local news agency KNT reported Tuesday. Famda’s family and his neighbours, the report said, prepared a cot and tried to shift him to the Keller hospital for medical assistance while walking cautiously through the snow covered roads.
Famda, the report said, breathed his last on way to the hospital.
“If road would have been through, we could have availed the service of an ambulance or a vehicle, but unfortunately, snow has not been cleared on the Keller roads yet and we lost a member in the family,” said a relative of the deceased.

Akhter Jan, wife of Papa Poswal of Zrakan Keller gave birth to a baby on a make-shift stretcher as the villagers were carrying her to a hospital for delivery as the roads blocked by the snow were not cleared.
Pregnant Woman Walks 5 Km For Medical Check-Up
Amid heavy snowfall and with roads still impassable in Hajin area of this north Kashmir district, a mother-to-be was forced on Wednesday to walk around 5 kilometres while being nine months pregnant.
A resident of Kosumbagh Hakabra Hajin area, she walked on foot as the road from Hakabara to Safapora is still clogged with snow, Fayaz Ahmad, her husband said.
“In such a condition, she walked rather struggled for a two-hour before reaching mid way to the health centre when a vehicle was available.”
When contacted AEE R&B Sumbal, he said that the snow was cleared from the road stretch from Hakabara to Safapora. “However more snowfall accumulated on the road and is being cleared soon.” . The snow was cleared later.
Dr Muzaffar ,Medical Officer Community Health Centre (CHC) told a local news agency GNS that no call was received on the helpline number which has established for emergency purposes.
“We would have made best efforts to reach out to the family,” he said.
