Srinagar: Ahead of the results to the 280 District Development Council (DDC) seats in Jammu and Kashmir, the authorities on Monday “detained” two senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders, including maternal uncle of party President Mehbooba Mufti.
Taking to her Twitter handle, Mehbooba lambasted the government and said that there was no rule of law in the Union Territory anymore.
“Total lawlessness as PDPs Sartaj Madni & Mansoor Hussain have been arbitrarily detained today on the eve of DDC election results. Every senior police officer here is clueless as it is ‘upar say order’. No rule of law in J&K anymore. It is out & out Gunda Raj,” Mehbooba said in a tweet.
Madni is maternal uncle of the former J&K Chief Minister and PDP President. He was released by the J&K administration this year along with Mansoor and former IAS officer-turned-politician Shah Faesal.
Meanwhile, PDP in a statement has condemned the alleged arrest of its two senior leaders and said that the detention of duo was an “extreme case of political vengeance and vendetta”.
Party’s Srinagar District President and former MLC Mohammad Khurshid Alam said the arrest of Mohammad Sartaj Madani and Peerzada Mansoor have once again proven beyond doubt that peoples’ rights are being “trampled here with impunity while those who dare to dissent are hounded and horrified by the government agencies in an absolute sadistic and undemocratic manner,”.
CPI (M) Secretary Ghulam Nabi Malik also termed the alleged detention of Madni and Mansoor as ‘unwarranted and uncalled for’ and demanded their immediate release.
“Rule of law is being flouted with impunity in Jammu and Kashmir,” Malik said.
