Srinagar: Former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti was placed under house arrest at her Gupkar residence on Tuesday morning to prevent her from visiting hilly areas of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district where nomaidic Gujjar families are being evicted by the authorities.
Mehbooba took to Twitter to claim that she has been detained. Police did not comment on the alleged detention of the former chief minister so far.
“Illegal detention has become GOIs favourite go to method for muzzling any form of opposition. I’ve been detained once again because I wanted to visit Budgam where hundreds of families were evicted from their homes,” Mehbooba tweeted.

Earlier, State Election Commissioner (SEC) K K Sharma had stated that Mehbooba being the former J&K chief minister needs to follow the proper security protocol while venturing out of her home.
