Srinagar: PDP President and former Chief Minister of J&K Mehbooba Mufti on Monday said that the Government of India is pursuing a policy of integrating Jammu and Kashmir into India by forcing people to chant slogans of ‘Jai Sri Ram’.

She made the remarks in a tweet in the backdrop of the alleged beating of people by the army following a militant attack in the HMT area of Srinagar outskirts in which two security personnel were killed.

“Army personnel drag civilians out of their homes in the middle of the night, thrash them with batons & then force these innocent men to chant ‘Jai Shree Ram’. Seems like this is GOI’s ‘vision’ for integrating J&K into India now,” Mehbooba tweeted.

Pertinently, two army personnel were killed in a militant attack on November 26 in Aban Shah locality of HMT neighbourhood on the outskirts of Srinagar.

According to some media reports, after the attack, security forces personnel evacuated people from the adjoining township during the night and allegedly beat them. However, police say they have not received any complaint in this regard. (KDC)
