Srinagar: After managing to pull support of Kargil parties, the People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) is scheduled to hold a meeting in the winter capital on Saturday in order to garner support from the Jammu based leadership in its fight for special status restoration.
The meeting will be held on Saturday at the Bhatindi residence of Dr Farooq Abdullah, who is also the chairman of the mainstream amalgam spearheading the campaign for special status restoration, sources said Wednesday. Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, CPI (M) state secretary M Y Tarigami and other PAGD signatories are likely to attend the meet in which the leaders will deliberate on the ongoing movement for restoration of special status.
According to sources, the PAGD leaders will also hold consultations on the announcement of eight-phase polls to 20 district development councils (DDCs) in the Jammu and Kashmir starting from November 28.
“The PAGD will also take Jammu based leadership on board. Deliberations will be held on the fallout of special status revocation and a strategy will be formulated to strengthen the ongoing movement launched by PAGD,” sources said.
Pertinently, this will be the third meet of mainstream conglomerate since its formation last month. After Jammu meet, PAGD is scheduled to hold a convention in Srinagar on November 17.
On October 24, six mainstream parties of J&K gave a formal shape to Gupkar Declaration of August 4, 2019 by announcing formation of People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) to fight for the restoration of erstwhile state’s semi-autonomous position. (With agency inputs)
