Lashkar’s IED Expert Killed In Anantnag Gunfight: Police

Srinagar: A foreign militant of Lashkar-e-Taiba, who was an IED expert, was killed on Saturday in a firefight with government forces in Larnoo area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, police said.

Acting on a specific input about the presence of militants, army’s 19 RR, police and the personnel of CRPF 164 battalion laid a siege around Larnoo area of the district and started a cordon and search operation, a police spokesperson here said.

During the search operation, he said the holed-up militant turned down surrender offer and fired towards the search team which was retaliated leading to an encounter.

In the ensuing encounter, one foreign militant was killed and his body was retrieved from the site of encounter,” the police spokesperson said.

He identified the killed militant as Nasir alias Shak Bhai. He said that the slain was an ‘A’ category militant and an IED expert affiliated with LeT.

“Incriminating materials including arms & ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe his complicity in other crimes,” the police spokesperson said.

In this connection, he said a case under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Larnoo and investigation has been initiated.

“People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials, if any,” the police spokesperson added.
