Srinagar: Paramilitary CRPF personnel on Saturday allegedly thrashed a chicken seller, culled his hatch after their vehicle came under minor stone pelting in Saida Kadal locality here.
Around 11:00 am Saturday, Suhail Ahmad Sofi was attending his customers at his poultry shop when two unknown boys hurled a few stones at a CRPF vehicle that was passing through Saida Kadal locality here, witnesses told Kashmir Observer. The stone pelting, they said infuriated the paramilitary men, who came out charging from their vehicle and grabbed Sofi by his collar.
“While the boys managed to flee after hurling a few stones at their vehicle, CRPF men thrashed Sofi to the pulp. The customers who were waiting in queue left the spot in shock and panic,” Mushtaq Ahmad, an eyewitness said.
He said that the enraged paramilitary men hit Sofi with batons and gun-butts, accusing him of pelting stones on their vehicle.
Talking to Kashmir Observer, Sofi said that he barely managed to save himself from the ‘wrath’ of CRPF personnel despite not being at fault. He also alleged that before the CRPF men left, they threatened to “teach him a lesson”
“They broke my phone which I had recently purchased. Also, I had a note of Rs 2000 in my hands, which I lost while CRPF men were beating me,” he said.
“I somehow managed to escape from the clutches of the CRPF personnel. When I returned, I found over a dozen chickens culled and left outside my shop. Even a new chair was broken in pieces,” he said.
Sofi further said that SHO Rainawari Rashid Khan visited the spot and assured him that action will be taken.
A local news agency KNT quoted Srinagar based CRPF Spokesperson, Pankaj Singh as saying that the facts of the incident were being ascertained.
