Srinagar: A woman sustained injuries on Friday as India and Pakistan troops exchanged heavy gunfire and mortar shells along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district.
40-year-old Hamida village sustained splinter injury on Friday evening when Pakistani troops resorted to heavy shelling along the LoC in Qasba sector of the district, officials said. The injured woman, they said has been removed to the hospital for treatment.
The Pakistani army, officials said also resorted to heavy firing and mortar shelling in forward areas in Shahpur and Kerni sectors along the LoC, inviting a strong retaliation from the Indian Army.
“At about 1730 hours today Pakistan army initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by firing with small arms along LoC in Shahpur, Kirni & Qasba sectors in district Poonch”, a defence spokesman said.
He said the Indian Army retaliated befittingly.
On October 1, an Army jawan was killed and another injured when the Pakistani army violated ceasefire along the LoC in Krishnagati area of Poonch district.
On September 5, an army personnel was killed and two others, including an officer, were injured in Pakistani firing in Sunderbani sector of Rajouri district.
On September 2, one JCO was killed in ceasefire violation in Keri sector of Rajouri.
Meanwhile, India and Pakistan troops also traded gunfire along the LoC in Nowgam Sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, news agency KNS reported.
The report said that the armies of India and Pak exchanged gunfire this morning however, no loss of life or damage to property so far.
