Covid-19 Crosses 50000 Mark With 1578 New Cases

Srinagar: At least ten more people succumbed to coronavirus infection in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, taking the number of deaths due to Covid-19 in the Union Territory to 858.

While six deaths were reported from Jammu division, four other victims of the deadly disease were residents of the Kashmir valley—two from Budgam and one each from Srinagar and Baramulla districts, official sources said.

Among the victims from Jammu, the officials said included a 63-year-old woman from Vikas Nagar, who was admitted to GMC Jammu on September 9.

“She was diagnosed with sepsis with acute gastroenteritis, uremic seizures, Hypothyroid with fresh onset seizure,” a doctor at GMC Jammu said.

“She was detected covid-19 positive on rapid antigen testing and died at 2:00 am,” the doctor said.

A 60-year-old man from Narwal also died at GMC, a week after he was admitted there and diagnosed with hypertension, Hypothyroidism and Bilateral Community Acquired Pneumonia.

A 50-year-old man from Kachi Chawani, died at GMC at around 11:50 pm. last night, hours after he was admitted.

One among the three remaining fatalities includes a 50-year-old woman from Top Sher Khana who was diagnosed with bilateral community acquired pneumonia and died last night at Jammu, the officials said.

Four deaths were reported from Kashmir Valley and included two persons from Budgam and one each from Srinagar and Baramulla.

A 70-year-old man from Gund Beerwah area of the central Kashmir district died at a hospital here, eight days after he was admitted. The other victim was a 40-year-old man from Zoorigund area and he died at hospital after remaining admitted from September 05.

An 85-year-old man from Pattan, Baramulla died at SKIMS Soura, three days after he was admitted to the tertiary care hospital. “He died at 8:45 pm,” a doctor at SKIMS Soura said.

“The patient was suffering from bilateral CAP HTN with T2DM with Severe COVID Pneumonia and died due to cardiopulmonary arrest.”

With these deaths, officials said, 858 people have succumbed to the virus in Jammu and Kashmir so far. Among them, they said, 721 were from the Valley while 137 others were from Jammu division.

Srinagar district with 247 deaths tops the list followed by Baramulla (112), Budgam (70), Pulwama (60), Anantnag (53), Kupwara (56), Jammu (81), Kulgam (40), Shopian (29), Bandipora (27), Ganderbal (25), Rajouri (14), Kathua (11), Doda (9), Samba (7), Poonch (6), Udhampur (4), Reasi (3), Kishtwar (1), and Ramban (1).

Covid-19 Crosses 50000 Mark With 1578 New Cases

Meanwhile Coronavirus cases in Jammu and Kashmir crossed 50000 mark on Friday as the Union Territory reported 1578 Covid-19 cases, including 73 travellers.

This is for the ninth day in running that J&K has witnessed over a thousand cases daily, taking the tally to 50712.

With 73 travelers among them, official sources said that 808 cases were from Jammu Division and 770 from Kashmir Valley, they said.

Giving the district wise breakup of the cases, they said, Srinagar reported 267 cases, Baramulla 43, Pulwama 34, Budgam 176, Anantnag 41, Bandipora 70, Kupwara 66, Kulgam 18, Shopian 8, Ganderbal 47, Jammu 415, Rajouri 64, Kathua 38, Udhampur 101, Samba 44, Ramban 27, Doda 26, Poonch 49, Reasi 2 and Kishtwar 42.

Moreover, they said, 474 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and were discharged from various hospitals— 137 from Jammu Division and 337 from Kashmir Valley.  (with GNS inputs)
