Srinagar: Hundreds of people for the fourth consecutive day Thursday staged demonstrations in parts of the Valley against the blasphemous remarks made by the members of a rightwing group against the Prophet of Islam (Pbuh).
Hundreds of people converged in Pattan and staged a strong demonstration denouncing the intolerable act of blasphemy by the members of rightwing Sentinel Bharat Raksha Manch members in Jammu’s Reasi on Sunday, reports said Thursday. Carrying placards, the protesters were demanding capital punishment for the culprits.
“These fanatics from Bharat Raksha Manch including Satpal Sharma and even the cable channel that aired that derogatory video should be punished without delay. The culprits should be booked under Public Safety Act,” said a protester Faheem Ahmed.
According to reports, a team led by SDM Pattan along with police stopped the protesters from entering Pattan market near Bilal Colony. He assured protesters that they will take up the matter with authorities and recommend stern punishment to those who hurt the sentiments of Muslim community.
Pertinently, on Sunday, police arrested Satpal Sharma, the main accused and his associate Deepak soon after the video containing derogatory remarks against Prophet of Islam (Pbuh) went viral. Rohit Sharma, a resident of Pacca Danga locality, was the third accused arrested in connection with the case related to the communally sensitive video.
Police had also filed a case under section 153A IPC (promoting enmity between different groups) and 295A IPC (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) at Pacca Danga police station.
Meanwhile, reports of protest against the right-wing group were also received from Srinagar’s Press Colony and Chanpora as well.
