Srinagar: Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad on Thursday discussed the issue of high speed internet restoration in Jammu and Kashmir with Union Minister for Telecommunications Ravi Shankar Prasad.

The leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha spoke telephonically to Prasad and apprised him about the difficulties faced by students, traders and others in Jammu and Kashmir, reports said. Azad threw light upon the adverse impact of the non-availability of 4G internet facilities in Jammu &Kashmir, which has multiplied the problems of students, business community and other establishments.

During telephonic conversation, Prasad assured Azad of considering of the restoration of 4G internet facilities in ‘due course of time’.

High speed internet was snapped on August 5, barely hours before the Modi-led government scrapped special status of Jammu and Kashmir and split the state into two Union Territories. The move was followed by a harsh curfew and crackdown during which thousands of people, including separatists and mainstream leaders, including three former Chief Ministers of the erstwhile state were detained.
