Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Tuesday allowed to open religious places across the Union Territory from August 16, four months after a ban was imposed over Covid-19 surge.
The announcement regarding it was made by the government spokesperson Rohit Kansal in a post on his Twitter handle.
“Major decision by J&K Government. All religious places and places of worship to open in Jammu & Kashmir from August 16, 2020. Religious processions and large religious gatherings remain strictly prohibited,” Kansal tweeted.
The Jammu and Kashmir government had banned religious gatherings in March this year after coronavirus cases started shooting up in the Union Territory.
“DCs and SPs advised to strictly caution all religious leaders not to call any gatherings. Public gatherings are a major source of social contact and spread of the virus,” Kansal had tweeted.
