Covid-19 Claims Six More Lives In J&K, Toll At 107

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday reported six new deaths due to Covid-19, taking the fatality count across the Union Territory to 107.

While five deaths were reported from Valley, another one was reported from Jammu province. In Valley, Two of the victims were from south Kashmir, two north and one from Srinagar city, officials said.

Two deaths were reported from CD Hospital while three from SKIMS Soura Hospital.

The two patients who died at CD hospital include 75-year-old man from Sopore and 80-year-old man from Bijbehara area of Anantnag district, the officials said.

According to officials, both patients were suffering from bilateral pneumonia besides respiratory diseases and other ailments and both were admitted to the hospital on June 24.

They said that the patient from Sopore died during night and patient from Bijbehara died on Wednesday morning.

Earlier, a 50 -year -old woman from Eidgah area of Srinagar, who had tested positive for COVID-19, died at SKIMS Soura hospital, the officials said.

“The woman was admitted on June 19 in Infectious Disease Block as a case of hypertension, hypothyroidism with community acquired pneumonia with Type 1 respiratory failure,” they said, adding that she expired at 6 a.m. on Wednesday.

Later in the evening, SKIMS confirmed two more Covid-19 deaths. Among them was a middle-aged woman from Kandi Kupwara and a man from south Kashmir’s Anantnag.

“The patient was admitted on June 30 as a case of carcinoma of unknown origin with Right l/l dvt with anemia,” Medical Superintendent SKIMS, Professor Farooq Jan said.

“The Patient had undergone peritoneal biopsy and developed post operation sepsis. She was admitted in medical observation on June 27 with complaints of vomiting and hematochesia,” he added.

Jan said that the Covid-19 swab was taken during that admission which came out positive following which patient was shifted to IDB.

“She expired on at 05:30 p.m. because of cardiopulmonary arrest,” he added.

Meanwhile, 45-year-old man from Undoo Shangus Anantnag died “due to cardiopulmonary arrest” at 6 p.m. at the same hospital.

Admitted on June 28, Professor Jan said patient was “k/c/o AML.” He came out positive or the covid-19 on June 28.

With six more fatalities, the death toll in J&K due to COVID-19 has reached 107 — 94 in Valley and 13 in Jammu division.

Srinagar, with 25 deaths tops the list of Covid-19 fatalities followed by 17 in Baramulla, 13 in Kulgam, 12 in Shopian, nine in Anantnag, eight in Jammu, seven in Budgam, six in Kupwara, four in Pulwama and one each in Bandipora, Udhampur, Doda, Kathua, Poonch and Rajouri districts.
