Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday reported 198 new cases of novel coronavirus, including 25 paramilitary personnel and five cops, taking the total number of infected people across the Union Territory to 7695.
While 19 of these were from the Jammu region, 179 were from the Valley, they added.
There are now 2,734 active cases in the union territory, while 4,856 patients have recovered from the infection.
The cases detected on Wednesday included 25 persons who had returned to the union territory recently, the officials said.
They said Baramulla district in north Kashmir recorded the highest number of COVID-19 cases — 49 — on Wednesday. It was followed by 32 each in Srinagar and Shopian districts.
Six districts — Pooch, Kathua, Reasi, Kishtwar, Ramban and Bandipora — did not have any fresh cases detected in the past 24 hours, the officials said.
Among the 85 cases from SKIMS, include CRPF personnel from 185, 177, 162, 181 battalions from Pulwama, Sopore, Kupwara and Charar-e-Sharief Budgam. Besides it, Chest Diseases hospital confirmed five cops from Police Station Shadi Pora Ganderbal, and two paramilitary BSF men with travel history from Chandigarh, three paramilitary men from SSB 14 battalion Fatehpora Ganderbal, and a soldier from BB Cant here Covid-19 positive.
With Wednesday’s fresh cases, the total number of coronavirus-infected persons in Jammu and Kashmir reached 7,695.
Of these, 6,065 are in Kashmir and 1,630 in the Jammu region, the officials said.
