South Kashmir: Gunfight Breaks Out In Shopian Village

Srinagar- A gunfight broke out between militants and state forces in Pinjora area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Monday wee hours, police said.

A joint team of Police, Army’s 44 RR and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search-operation in Pinjora area of Shopian on specific information about the presence of militants in the area, said a police official.

He said that as the joint team encircled the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them. The fire was retaliated by the joint team, triggering off a gunfight.

The exchange of fire was on till last reports.

Pertinently this the second gunfight in less than 24hrs in Shopian district.

On Sunday, five militants of Hizbul Mujahideen were killed in gunfight in Reban village of Zainapora belt of the district.
