Srinagar- A 40-year-old CRPF trooper, posted in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, and a 35-year-old resident of Srinagar died of covid-19, taking the number of fatalities due to the novel coronavirus in Jammu and Kashmir to 43, officials said on Monday.
A 40-year-old CRPF personnel, who had tested positive for COVID-19, died at SKIMS Soura on Sunday night, officials said.
The trooper, who was posted in Anantnag district in South Kashmir, was admitted at the SKIMS on Thursday with acute respiratory distress syndrome, they said.
They said the sample of the trooper, who hailed from Uttar Pradesh, was taken on Friday and it returned as positive for COVID-19.
His condition became critical and he passed away on Sunday night due to cardiopulmonary arrest, the officials said.
This is the first COVID-related death of a trooper in Jammu and Kashmir.
A 35-year-old man from Miskeen Bagh Khaniyar died last night at CD hospital, hours after he was shifted from SMHS hospital where he tested positive for the virus, said medical superintendent CD Dr Salim Tak.
“He was admitted in SMHS hospital. Soon after his swab sample returned positive for the covid-19, he was shifted CD hospital where he died,” he said.
With the latest fatalities, the death toll due to the virus in J&K has gone up to 43- 38 in Kashmir Valley and 5 in Jammu division.
So far Srinagar district with twelve deaths due to the virus has the highest fatalities, followed by seven in Baramulla, six in Anantnag, four each in Kulgam & Shopian, three in Jammu, two each in Budgam & Kupwara while one death each has been reported in Bandipora, Doda & Udhampur.
