Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir administration said Saturday that all the ten Kashmir districts have been classified as red zones and as such the entire valley will be treated as a red zone to effectively combat the spread of coronavirus.
The decision comes a day after the Union Health Ministry classified four districts of Kashmir- Srinagar, Bandipora, Anantnag and Shopian as red zones, while the Home Ministry announced two-week long extension in the national lockdown beginning on Monday.
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, P.K. Pole told Kashmir Observer that no district in Kashmir was without a red zone and the graph of coronavirus spread was not showing any downward trend.
“Every district in Kashmir has a red zone. 25-30 new cases are reported on daily basis. And in coming days, 10-15 thousand people are arriving in the Valley. So, we can’t afford to take any risk and lower our guard,” Pole said.
He said it was a challenge for the administration to deal with thousands of stranded students, workers and other residents who will be arriving in Valley in a few days.
“Every person will be tested for coronavirus on arrival. Anyone positive will be quickly sent for quarantine,” he said.
He said that the spike in fresh cases was because of the aggressive testing being done in length and breadth of the Valley.
“Earlier, we used to do 100-150 tests on daily basis. Now have crossed 1000 tests per day mark,” he added.
While four districts of the Valley have been listed as red zones, six others including Kulgam, Shopian, Budgam, Ganderbal and Baramulla have been classified as orange zones. Pulwama is the only green zone in all the ten districts of the Valley.
No district in the Jammu division has been classified as the red zone as all the seven districts of Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Reasi, Udhampur, Ramban, Rajouri have been classified as orange zone, while as Poonch, Doda and Kishtwar have been classified as green zones.
