Pulwama, Kargil Declared COVID-19 Free

Majority of the Kargil pilgrims who were stranded in Iran have returned

Srinagar: South Kashmir district of Pulwama and Kargil district in Ladakh have been declared  COVID-19 free as all the positive patients have recovered and have been discharged from the hospitals.

According to the officials in Pulwama three patients from Khaigam, Chandgam and Sangervani villages of the district, all members of Tablighi Jama’at have recovered and have been discharged from the hospital, Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Pulwama, Dr Jameel Ahmad Mir said.

Pertinently, seven villages including Khaigam, Sangerwani, Abhama villages of Tehsil Rajpora and Gudoora, Chandgam, Pinglena and Parigam of Tehsil Pulwama were declared Red Zones while adjoining villages of these Tehsils were declared buffer zones.

Officials said that people of Red Zones were screened four times and no positive case was reported from the district in last 20 days.

Reports from Ladakh said that all the four positive patients of Kargil district have recovered and were discharged from the hospital.

Additional District Magistrate Kargil, Sonam Chosjar has said there is no positive case of COVID-19 in Kargil now as fourth positive case from Sankoo area of the district was also discharged on Wednesday.

The patient was given a warm farewell from the dedicated Covid Hospital by the doctors, para medics and magistrate on duty with claps and garlanding with traditional Khataks.

Administration also discharged the close contacts of the 4th positive patients from Shakar Chiktan from quarantine.

With Kargil now Covid-19 free, Leh district still has 14 positive cases under treatment.

The number of active cases in J&K stands at 310. 92 patients have recovered and five have died due to the deadly disease.

Bandipora has the highest number of active cases in J&K at 78, followed by 51 in Srinagar.

Baramulla (41), Shopian (40), Jammu (21) and Udhampur (11) are other districts with COVID-19 cases in double digits.

Meanwhile, Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Feroz Ahmad Khan congratulating the people of Kargil, doctors, paramedics and all front-liners for their efforts to make Kargil Covid Free, urged the people to obey the directions of the administration as the threat was still there.

It is noteworthy that the majority of pilgrims who were stranded in Iran have since returned to Kargil after undergoing requisite quarantine period and all have tested negative, officials said.
