Srinagar: The elected members of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Kargil on Tuesday threated mass resignation if the pilgrims and students of the Union Territory quarantined in the country and abroad are not brought back within a week.
A meeting of the elected representatives was held at the office of Chairman LAHDC, Kargil in which three resolutions were passed unanimously and the demands were sent to Lieutenant Governor Radha Krishna Mathur for quick perusal. The meeting was also held by President Municipal Committee Kargil and President and General Secretary of Panchayat Coordination Committee Kargil.
The first resolution sought evacuation of pilgrims who have completed their quarantine period and those who are stranded in Iran. The second resolution called for evacuation of students and other citizens from outside UT and permission for stranded passengers to move within the UT.
“In the meantime, if any untoward incident happens to any citizen of Ladakh anywhere I the country or outside, the administration of UT Ladakh and the government of India shall be solely responsible,” the resolution said.
The last resolution passed by the council demanded unrestricted supply of essential commodities via Zojila and keeping the highway open for all kinds of vehicular movement.
In the meeting, the elected bodies also decided to raise quarantine facilities at various levels by pooling in all the combined resources.
“Keeping in view the upcoming month of Holy Ramzan, the meeting also demanded the above mentioned points be realized in a span of one week after which the elected representatives of the district shall not be held accountable for any find of law and order problems.,” reads the resolution, a copy of which is in possession of Kashmir Observer.
The resolution warned that the democratically elected representatives would submit mass resignation, if the demands are not met within a week.
