Srinagar: Parents of several youth detained last year after revocation of Article 370, staged a protest in south Kashmir’s Tral Town on Friday demanding immediate release of their sons over fears of coronavirus pandemic.

Several parents assembled outside the officer of Assistant Development Commissioner Tral and staged a demonstration seeking release of their wards lodged in different jails across India, news agency KNT reported. Carrying placards and banners, the protesting parents said that they fear for the lives of their children in view of the rapidly spreading coronavirus pandemic.

“My son Shabir Ahmed is lodged outside jail and we are worried for his health,” said his mother, who hails from Kamla area.

The mother of another jailed youth Feroz Ahmad Bhat also urged government to release her son on humanitarian grounds.

“My son was arrested in 2003. He is not being released despite completing life sentence in jail,” she said.
