Srinagar: Former union minister and Congress leader Prof Saifudin Soz has demanded urgent restoration of morning news bulletins in Kashmiri language from Doordarshan Srinagar which have been mysteriously taken off the air.
“While lodging a complaint with the Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar about the bureaucratic attitude of his Ministry, I informed the minister that the Prasar Bharti has withdrawn the Kashmiri news bulletin from its list of morning transmission of news”, Soz said in a statement on Wednesday.
“In my letter to him, I brought to his notice that the general run of Kashmiris have become extremely angry with this move by the Ministry and the authorities of Prasar Bharti because it was nearly three decades that Sanskrit bulletin was followed by Kashmiri news bulletin.”
Soz urged the minister to rescind the order of withdrawing Kashmiri news bulletin from the morning transmission.
Soz also telephoned Shashi S. Vempati, Chairman, Prasar Bharti and urged him to restore the Kashmiri bulletin immediately.
“While replying, he has assured me that he would personally take interest in the restoration of Kashmiri news bulletin in their daily transmission of the All India Radio,” Soz disclosed.
It bears mention that the Doordarshan mysteriously stopped broadcasting news bulletins in Kashmiri language in mornings and during the day even after there was greater demand for more news bulletins in view of the Covid-19 pandemic.
