Srinagar: A fierce gunfight broke out on Tuesday between army and militants along the Line of Control (LoC) in the frontier Kupwara district.

A group of militants believed to be five to six in numbers were intercepted by soldiers near “Teen Behak” in Jumgund area along the LoC around 1:00 pm today, news agency GNS reported.

The militants opened fire upon the soldiers when the latter challenged them. This led to the outbreak of fierce but brief gun-battle in the area, report said.

Meanwhile, additional reinforcement of the forces have been rushed to the spot to assist the soldiers manning the LoC. However, due to the inclement weather, the operation may get prolonged even as all the exit points have been sealed, report added.

Meanwhile, army sources have said that the operation was going on in the area.
