Srinagar: In a tragic accident, three people from Banihal died on Tuesday while attempting to reach their homes through snow clad mountains, as public transport remains off the roads due to three week lockdown in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
Evading curbs imposed by the authorities in wake of coronavirus pandemic, a group of seven people started a journey through snowbound and hazardous mountainous track to reach their homes in Hanjaj village of Banihal, news agency GNS reported. While three of them safely managed to reach their destinations, four others got trapped in the snow.
Rescue teams rushed to the area to safely evacuate the stranded locals. They all were taken to the sub-district hospital Banihal, where one among them identified as Mohammad Reyaz was declared dead on arrival, while three others were admitted in serious condition, the report said.
Later, two others breathed their last at the hospital. They have been identified as Ghulam Mohi-ud-din and Abdul Zubair. The condition of the fourth person continues to be critical, the report said.
“A rescue operation was started immediately after we received the information last night. One of the persons was declared dead at the hospital while two others succumbed later,” said the concerned Station House officer (SHO), Aabid Bukhari, who was also part of the rescue team
