Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Tuesday declared dozens of localities and villages in Srinagar and elsewhere as red zones in an attempt to halt the spread of coronavirus.
Here in this capital city, Mehjoor Nagar, Natipora, Lal Bazar, Eidgah and Shalteng localities have been declared red zones, as the coronavirus cases continue to rise sharply.
Similarly, the district authorities in Bandipora have declared four villages as Red Zones as a precautionary measure after several COVID positive cases were reported from these areas. The villages that have been declared red zones include Parray Mohalla, Chandergeer, Batagund and Saderkoot Bala, all in Hajin area of the district.
The villages have been notified as red zones by the Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Reyaz Ahmad Beigh, nodal officer COVID-19 after invoking Section 144 CrPC, Epidemic Diseases Act 1897 and Disaster Management Act, 2005
“He said that there would be no inward and outward movement of any person from the villages declared as Red zone and the people would stay inside their homes to ensure complete lockdown,” an official spokesperson said.
The ADC warned of stern action against violators as per provision of relevant Acts.
In Shopian, Sedew & Ramnagri and in Pulwama Gudoora, Chandgam, Pinglena, Parigam, Abhama,Sangerwani and Khaigam villages have been notified as red zones. Chadoora in Budgam and Waskura in Genderbal have also been declared red zones in a bit to confine villagers indoors and stop covid-19 spread.
