26 People Under Quarantine at JLNM Brought Back After ‘Escape Bid’

Srinagar– At least 26  people from Chattabal and Batamaloo area of Srinagar who were put under quarantine created ruckus at JLNM Hospital, Rainawari, Srinagar early on Saturday morning and fled after breaking doors and window panes of the hospital, officials said.

Many people, including 14 women and 12 men from Chattabal and Batamaloo areas were placed under quarantine in the hospital after a positive case was reported from Chattabal locality of Srinagar on Friday. “They, however, complained that they were not satisfied with the hospital facility and early in the morning, created ruckus and broke down window panes, doors of the hospital and fled,” officials at the hospital said. “All these were close relatives and family members of positive case of Chattabal.”

In the night, some patients from Batamaloo and Chattabal complained of inadequate facilities for such a large group at the hospital, sources said.
According to Dr Zakir Ahmed, Medical Superintendent of  the hospital“ All of them have been brought back to the hospital by the police.” (KNO)

JLNM Doctor Sacked For Absence, Another Suspended

The health department sacked a doctor for dereliction in duty, while another was placed under suspension in performing duties at the JLNM hospital, where a group of people under quarantine created ruckus on Saturday over lack of staff and inadequate facilities.

Director Health Services Kashmir issued termination order of Microbiologist Dr Mariya Jeelani for not attending her duty despite repeated orders from the department, official sources told Kashmir Observer today.

“In view of the non-compliance of various orders issued from this Directorate (DHSK/PS/COVID/2859-73 dated 27-03-2020) and Medical Superintendent JLNM hospital (JLNM/H/276-79 dated 27-03-2020) you were asked to attend your duties immediately, keeping in view the prevailing disaster the Covid-19 outbreak in Valley which you failed to comply with and it created lot of inconvenience to the patients and hospital administration,” reads the order.

“Hence your contractual services hired as Microbiologist under IDSP and deployed at JLNM hospital are hereby terminated with immediate effect,” the order adds.

Another doctor identified as Dr Safina Gul, daughter of senior NC leader Mubarak Gul has been suspended and served show cause notice, a local news agency reported.

JLNM which has been designated as Covid-19 hospitals was in news this morning after a group of people admitted for quarantine went on rampage damaging doors and windows before fleeing from the hospital.

Trouble started Friday night when 26 people, mostly family members and relatives of the elderly Covid-19 couple from Chattabal, alleged inadequate facilities and lack of staff at the hospital. They also damaged doors and windows this morning before fleeing from the hospital. It was only after police intervention that all of the 26 were brought back to the hospital for quarantine.
