4 More Test Positive in Srinagar, Total Cases in J&K Rise to 20

Srinagar- Four more persons on Friday tested positive for COVID-19 in Srinagar and two more positive cases were reported from Rajouri, taking the toll of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 20, officials said.

“4 more positive cases in Kashmir; all from Srinagar district – 2 have travel history abroad; the other 2 have travel history outside J&K as part of religious congregation,” Government spokesman, Rohit Kansal tweeted.

Reports said that two persons are aged 32 years and 37 years and are residents of Bemina Srinagar who had travel to New Delhi and Haryana where they participated in religious congregations, possibly attended by foreigners.

The other two persons are 62-year-old man and his wife from Chattabal area of Srinagar and they had returned from Saudi Arabia on March 16 and were part of the same flight which was boarded by a sexagenarian male from Natipora and Kashmir’s first covid-19 patient, a 67-year-old woman from Khaniyar Srinagar who, according to the doctors at SKIMS Soura, is recovering.

In a late night tweet Kansal announced two more cases coming out as positive from Rajouri district.

“As we end the day, two more positive cases confirmed-both from Rajouri District. One a family member of yesterday’s confirmed case, the other has a contact history with a confirmed (now deceased) case,” Kansal tweeted.

With this, the total number of positive COVID-19 cases in Jammau and Kashmir Valley has now gone up to 20 including the person who died on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the J&K administration said today that 5763 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been put under surveillance and, so far, 18 cases have tested positive in Jammu and Kashmir.

In the daily media bulletin issued today, a government spokesperson said that 3136 persons have been kept under home quarantine while 169 others are under hospital quarantine.

“Persons who are under home surveillance stand at 1877 while as 581 persons have completed their 28-day surveillance period. 423 samples have been sent for testing of which 400 tested as negative. Five reports are awaited till March 27, 2020,” the bulletin reads.

The official spokesperson urged people to seriously follow lockdown and uphold the instructions laid out by the government in a coordinated effort to protect themselves and their families by staying in homes.

Doctors Test Negative

Meanwhile two doctors in Sopore, who had treated now deceased Covid-19 patient from Hyderpora, tested negative for the deadly disease, reports said.

While the 67-year-old from Hyderpora died yesterday, the two doctors had been in isolation in Sopore hospital since Wednesday.

Dr Rudyaan Incharge officer at Sub District hospital Sopore confirmed that both the doctors who were kept in the isolation ward have been discharged now after their report came out to be negative, reported news agency GNS.
