Srinagar- In a major crackdown against the people violating prohibitory orders imposed in wake of coronavirus pandemic, police on Monday detained twenty people from Sopore while a case against sixteen others was registered in Shopian district of south Kashmir.
According to reports, at least 20 people on Monday were detained by police in Sopore town for allegedly violating orders issued by the administration under section 144 CrPc, banning assembly of more than three people.
The administration had already imposed restrictions and appealed public as well as shopkeepers to obey the order and to co-operate with authorities in order to tackle COVID-19. However several shopkeepers and transporters in town didn’t follow the instructions and opened shops as per their own will, news agency GNS reported.
A police officer despite repeated announcements, the accused refused to follow the instructions.
“We have arrested them now they will face the consequences as per law,” he said.
In a similar action, police filed a case against 16 persons for violating government directive in Shopian district of south Kashmir.
A police officer said that an FIR (35/2020) under sections 188, 269 and 271 IPC have been lodged in police station Shopian against the people who violated government orders in Shopian town on Sunday.
Similarly, an FIR (8/2020) under section 188 IPC was registered in police station Keller against the violators, he said. “The two separate cases were registered against 16 persons for violating the orders”.
Government has issued slew of directions including restricting the assembly of people in a bid to contain the spread of coronavirus in Jammu and Kashmir where four positive cases, one in Kashmir and three in Jammu had been reported so far.
2 Students Booked For ‘Concealing’ Travel History: Police
Police has registered an FIR against two persons, hailing from Awantipora area of Kashmir, for concealing their travel history to avoid mandatory quarantine for those coming from coronavirus-hit countries.
“Upon the information received from the magistrate that two persons of Awantipora area have concealed their travel history in order to evade necessary quarantine process, a case under relevant sections of the law has been registered against them at police station Awantipora,” a police spokesman said on Monday.
He said the booked persons are students and have recently returned to village Charsoo and village Goripora of Awantipora with a travel history of visiting Pakistan and Bangladesh.
“They have been sent to EDI Pampore to undergo necessary quarantine and further action under the said FIR shall be initiated after their quarantine period is over,” the spokesman said.
Police has appealed the general public to cooperate with administration and cops in this unprecedented situation and disclose their travel history proactively.
Div Com Warns Violators
The newly appointed Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Pandurang K Pole on Monday urged people to follow shutdown in letter and spirit across the Valley to prevent spread of coronavirus.
While addressing media, he said that yesterday government ordered closure of all establishments and services throughout Kashmir till March 31 in a bid to prevent spread of coronavirus in the Valley. There would be a shutdown of all establishments and services except essential commodities.
He asked people not to venture out except emergency purposes. Only single person will reach market to buy groceries or the essential commodities and return home quickly.
“People should avoid social gatherings. Five or more persons will not be allowed to venture out unnecessarily and those who violate will be dealt strictly as per relevant section of law,” Pole said.
The Div Com urged people to adopt advisories issued by Health Department to stay safe and to prevent the spread of Corona virus.
