Srinagar– Amid a civil curfew which was enforced by police and paramilitary forces by placing hurdles on major road junctions, a large number of carefree youth were seen playing cricket during day in the grounds of SP College in the heart of Srinagar city on Sunday.
Cricket crazy youth could be seen playing the game on many empty roads in the old city as well. This despite repeated appeals for home stay by the authorities amid coronavirus scare gripping the entire world.
Cricket is the favourite past time for youth of Kashmir during frequent shutdowns when they occupy roads to play the game taking advantage of the absence of traffic.
Many do this in order to prevent movement of private vehicles which often ply in defiance of the shutdowns. But the pictures of large number of youth playing cricket at SP College today have raised concern about the indifference among this section of population about the lurking dangers posed by the Coronavirus.
Sources told Kashmir Observer that the police reached there later in the day and cleared the ground of cricketers.
