Srinagar- The district administration has decided to use hotels and government owned accommodations as quarantine facilities for the people arriving in Srinagar from other parts of the country and abroad.

According to an official spokesperson, 65 well-equipped hotels and government accommodations will be used as facilities to quarantine people arriving in Srinagar, including those who might have come into contact with the COVID-19 positive cases in the district.

“The hotels requisitioned for the purpose are all 3-star certified with all facilities to facilitate comfortable quarantine. The government accommodations acquired are also all well-equipped,” the spokesperson said.

He said that 1166 people, who returned to Srinagar from abroad during the last three days, have been shifted to 20 of these quarantine facilities.

“Following standard operating procedures, all these persons, mostly Bangladesh return students were isolated soon upon their arrival and then shifted to these well-equipped quarantine facilities,” the official spokesperson said.

According to the official spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary visited over half of these quarantine facilities today where the returnees have been shifted for undergoing the recommended quarantine.

“He inspected the facilities made available at these centres and also interacted with all the people shifted there,” the spokesperson said, adding “He urged them to complete their quarantine period and assured them of provision of all kinds of facilities and care,”

According to the official spokesperson, the quarantine centres have been equipped with all kinds of facilities ranging from food to recreation to medical-care to ensure comfortable and safe stay for the quarantined.

“Special medical teams with diagnostic and other equipment and items have been made available at these places,” he added.
