3 More With ‘Covid-19 Like Symptoms’ Admitted To SKIMS, CD Hospital

Srinagar: The number of people enlisted for surveillance in Jammu and Kashmir reached 3600 on Saturday, even as three more with coronavirus like symptoms were admitted to the hospitals while the reports of nine other admitted earlier were declared negative.

Two more people with symptoms-like coronavirus infection were admitted to SKIMS, Soura and their samples were sent for laboratory tests, officials said. Both of them had a foreign travel history, one to Saudi Arabia and others to Thailand. Both of them have been admitted in the isolation facility set up at the tertiary care hospital, according to Nodal Officer for Coronavirus Control at SKIMS, Dr G H Yatoo.

SKIMS Medical Superintendent Prof Farooq Jan meanwhile said that three doctors, two of whom had come in contact with the lone Covid-19 patient, have been discharged after their samples came out to be negative.

“They have been sent to home quarantine. One more doctor who had travel history to Amritsar was also discharged as he didn’t fit in the criteria,” he said.

The SKIMS management also announced cancellation of holidays, including Sundays in view of the coronavirus threat.

At the Chest Diseases Hospital, Drugjan, one more person with Covid-19 like symptoms was admitted at the isolation facility, head of the department Dr. Naveed Nazir Shah said.

He further said samples of nine suspects admitted earlier came negative today.

Meanwhile, the government in the daily media bulletin issued today said that 3611 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been put under surveillance and, so far, only four cases have tested positive in Jammu and Kashmir.

According to the daily Media Bulletin on novel coronavirus, 2557 persons have been kept under home quarantine while as 50 are in hospital quarantine.

Persons who are under home surveillance stand at 584 while as 420 persons have completed their 28-day surveillance period.

The Bulletin further said that 213 samples have been sent for testing of which 205 tested as negative and only four cases have tested positive so far, while as four reports are awaited till March 21, 2020.

It added that the government has directed that Home quarantine is mandatory for anybody having travel history to Novel Coronavirus affected countries/ areas in order to contain the spread of the disease.

“All the travellers who have arrived from Covid-19 affected countries/ areas and have not declared their travel history so far have been appealed to necessarily report to local health authorities/ Covid helpline and undergo self-imposed homse quarantine for a period of 14 days from the date of their arrival,” the bulletin read.

“The Public at large has been urged to extend full co-operation to the call of Janta Curfew given by the Prime Minister tomorrow from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM,” it added.
