Kashmir Reports First COVID-19 Positive Case, Public Transport Suspended

Srinagar –A 67-year-old woman from Khanyar area of Srinagar has tested positive for coronavirus, making her the first confirmed case in Kashmir division, officials said on Wednesday.

A doctor at SKIMS said that she has a travel history to Saudi Arabia on March 16 where she had performed Umrah. The doctor said that her report was confirmed from two places including SKIMS and Pune lab. 

Meanwhile, in a tweet Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar said that there will be restrictions on public transport, assembly of people and some other measures in Srinagar from tomorrow (Thursday).

Srinagar Municipal Corporation Mayor Junaid Azam Matoo also urged people of Srinagar city to stay indoors from Thursday morning and venture out only when absolutely necessary. He said that those with any flu like symptoms should immediately home quarantine.

A doctor at SKIMS said that the patient is already under observation. He said that the victim landed at Srinagar Airport just two days ago and after screening was straightway shifted to SKIMS.
