SRINAGAR – At least five restaurants on Wednesday were sealed by district authorities for flouting orders issued under the disaster management Act 2005 in wake of the deadly coronavirus threat.

Four eateries and a prominent restaurant were sealed in Karan Nagar locality of the uptown during an inspection drive carried out today, an official spokesperson said. The action against the eateries was taken for violating closure orders issued by the District Magistrate Srinagar Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary under the disaster management act 2005.

The inspection team also took action against a drugstore in the neighbouring Batamloo locality.

Seven special teams constituted by the district administration inspected 41 restaurants, 52 drugstores, 55 street vendors and 170 vehicles up to 5 pm on the first day after issuance of the order.

The administration also conducted extensive sanitisation at various places in the district.

The Srinagar Municipal Corporation deputed teams and disinfected eight important public locations including among others GB Pant hospital, CD hospital, Srinagar Airport and Nowgam railway station.
