SRINAGAR – Three more people tested positive to deadly coronavirus in the newly carved Union Territory of Ladakh on Tuesday taking the number of infected people to seven, even as the number of people under surveillance rose to 2615 in Jammu and Kashmir, while 2060 others are under home quarantine.
According to reports, three youth tested positive in the mountainous Ladakh Union Territory on Tuesday after coming in contact with the people infected by the deadly disease. With three fresh cases, the number of people infected by Covid-19, reached 7 today.
Giving a break-up of the infected people, Ladakh Commissioner Secretary Rigzin Sampheal told a local news agency that two fresh cases were reported from Ladakh while one from Kargil district of the region.
All the infected, he said were males. They have been put in isolation ward of SNM hospital for quarantine.
“All these three persons have no travel history, but their relatives have recently arrived from Iran,” Sampheal said.
Pertinently, most of the cases in Ladakh UT have surfaced from Chushot Gongma area after many people returned from pilgrimage last month. The area, according to reports has been cordoned off and the administration is providing essential supplies to the villagers.
In the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, four people with travel history to Iran and Saudi Arabia were admitted to SKIMS and Chest Diseases hospital in the capital city. Also, three people admitted to the isolation ward of the SKIMS on Monday, tested negative to the deadly infection today, news agency GNS reported.
“A woman from Srinagar, who had recently returned from Saudi Arabia after performing Umrah, was admitted to the hospital. Her samples have been sent for examination,” Nodal officer for coronavirus control at SKIMS, Dr G H Yatoo said.
At the CD hospital, three people with coronavirus like symptoms were admitted to the isolation facility.
“One of them had returned from Iran and two others from Saudi Arabia (after performing Umrah),” a doctor said.
He said before them, nine persons were admitted in the isolation facility.
HOD Chest Disease Hospital Srinagar, Dr. Naveed Nazir Shah said that nine samples were tested and all of them came to be negative. “3 test reports are awaited,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory administration today said that 2615 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance and, so far, three cases have tested positive in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Whereas, 2060 persons have been kept under home quarantine and 28 are in hospital quarantine. Persons who are under home surveillance stand at 297 while as 230 persons have completed their 28-day surveillance period,” the government said in the daily media bulletin.
Further, the Bulletin said that 113 samples have been sent for testing, of which 105 tested as negative and three cases have tested positive, so far, while as reports of five cases are awaited till March 17, 2020.
The Government has urged the general public to maintain social distancing as it is the key to stop and prevent the spread of Covid-19 from those who are infected.
“The intervention includes remaining out of crowded settings, avoiding mass gatherings, and maintaining distance (approximately 6 feet or 2 meters) from others when possible,” the Government advisory said.
Further, the Government has appealed people not to panic and take care of health and protect others.
“Public in general is advised to avoid un-necessary travel and use of public transport; avoid crowded places and large gatherings, do not spit in public. People must take basic precautions for personal hygiene; frequent handwashing with soap and water and observing coughing and sneezing etiquettes,” the Government advisory added.
If anyone has fever, cough and difficulty in breathing, seek medical care at the earliest.
The advisory also calls upon the general public to strictly follow the advisories issued by the Government from time to time and rely only on the information released by the Government through the daily media bulletin to print and electronic media.
