SRINAGAR – Stating that they were not any third front as being portrayed by some people, the former minister Syed Altaf Bukhari on Friday said that they will fill the political space only when other mainstream parties would fail to represent people of J&K.
“Why third front, we can come up with a party itself. But that will only happen if other political parties would fail to represent the people of J&K,” said.
He said that they were not any third front as the word about them is being spread on social and local media.
“We have a capability and can come up with a new party. For that we will see first what the other political parties have in store. It is not that their top brass would stay in jail or detention forever,” Bukhari said.
“They will be set free, maybe a month or two months from now. Let us hold deliberations with them. We have a common issue before us. If others will drag their feet down, we will fill the vacuum by launching a new party.”
He, however, said that was not the case as of now. “We are yet to arrive at a consensus whether to launch a party or not,” Bukhari said.
Bukhari, the former education minister, came into limelight recently after he led a delegation of former legislators to Lieutenant Governor Girish Chandera Murmu. The delegation had submitted a detailed memorandum to the LG seeking back the statehood for J&K, release of prisoners, restoration of internet services.
The memorandum also mentioned other important issues as well. Bukhari led delegation also held talks with the visiting ambassadors of various countries, who arrived in Kashmir to meet cross section of society.
3 Senior PDP Leaders Resign
Three senior PDP leaders announced their resignation from the party on Friday, a day after its eight leaders were expelled for going “against the will of the people” by engaging in parleys with the government.
Those who have resigned from the party are former Rafiabad MLA Yawar Mir, Muntazir Mohiuddin and former president of the party’s youth wing Showkat Gayoor.
The three confirmed that they have resigned from the party but did not specify their future plans.
Yawar is the son of Mohammad Dilawar Mir, who was among the eight leaders expelled by the PDP on Thursday. The expelled leaders have thrown their weight behind former PDP leader Syed Altaf Bukhari and were part of a delegation that met Lieutenant Governor G C Murmu On Tuesday.
They also met the visiting envoys from 15 countries who arrived here on Thursday on a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir
Speculations are rife that Bukhari is launching a new political party with the help of disgruntled leaders in the PDP, Congress and other parties.
