SRINAGAR – At least two civilians were injured on Wednesday in a grenade blast in Habak area of the Srinagar outskirts.
According to reports, suspected militants lobbed a grenade towards Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troopers at Habak area this morning, which missed the intended target and exploded on the roadside leaving at least two pedestrians injured. The grenade blast, reports said created panic in the area prompting the shopkeepers to down their shutters while the pedestrians ran towards safer places.
Soon after the blast, additional forces rushed to the spot to nab the attackers.
CRPF Spokesman, Pankaj Singh said that militants hurled a grenade at the CRPF deployment that exploded on the roadside injuring two civilians.
“No damaged was caused to security forces. Soon after the attack, entire area to nab the attackers,” he said.
Pertinently, today’s attack comes barely four days after a grenade attack in Kawdara left a teenager injured and two private vehicles damaged.
Ex-Militant Detained In Samba
A former militant has been detained for questioning during an operation in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir, a police officer said on Wednesday.
Parvaiz Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Srinagar, was picked up from Parmandal area Tuesday night, the officer said.
He said Bhat was active in Kashmir in the early 1990’s before he surrendered to the government forces.
His detention was based on specific information, the officer said, refusing to divulge further details.
