Massive anti-US protests were witnessed in Kashmir on Friday and Saturday.
Srinagar: Thousands marched through streets of various Kashmir towns while shutdown was observed for second consecutive day on Saturday in parts of Kashmir and the Kargil district of Ladakh Union territory to mourn the killing of Iranian Revolutionary Guard Commander Qasem Soleimani in a US air raid on Friday.
According to reports, thousands marched in Srinagar and central Kashmir as Shia dominated areas of Valley observed shutdown for the second day against the killing of Soleimani and Iraqi paramilitary commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis in a brazen air strike ordered by US President Donald Trump.
All business establishments remained closed while transport was off the roads in parts of central Kashmir’s Budgam district. The shutdown was observed in parts of Srinagar and towns of Budgam, Magam and other areas.
Earlier protest rallies were taken out from Alamgiri Bazar and Hassanabad in old Srinagar besides Budgam and Magam towns.
Meanwhile, a shutdown was also observed in the mountainous Kargil district, a day after thousands of people protested Soleimani’s killing. Reports said that a mourning conference was organized by Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust in which thousands of people participated. Reports added that special prayers were held and rich tributes were paid to departed leaders.
