Jail Fails To Produce Yasin Malik In Court

Incarcerated JKLF Chief Yasin Malik – File Pic

SRINAGAR -Tihar Jail authorities on Tuesday refused to produce JKLF leader Yasin Malik in court, citing MHA directive as the reason.

Yasin Malik is currently being tried for killing of four Indian Air ForceĀ  personnel and kidnapping of Rubaiya Sayeed, daughter of then Home Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed in 1989-90.

Malik was expected to be presented before court on Tuesday for hearing in the case.

While submitting reasons for not presenting Kashmiri leader in the court, jail authorities told special TADA court in Jammu that earlier this year, the Ministry of Home Affairs had instructed them to not produce Yasin Malik in any court.

Meanwhile Tihar Jail officials have said that they are willing to present JKLF chief Yasin Malik before the court via teleconferencing.

The trial in the 30 year old cases against Yasin Malik resumed from September 11.

Yasin Malik, who was granted a stay on trial by a single bench of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court in 1995 as there was no TADA court in SrinagarĀ  is currently lodged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail on charges of terror funding. (CNS)
