TRAL Catering to 105 villages, the sub district hospital in Tral, which was upgraded from Community Health Centre three decades back in 1988, lacks doctors, staff, primary health centers and high tech machineries due to which patients continue to suffer here with no intervention from higher authorities.
As compared to SDH Pampore, SDH Bijbehara, SDH Sopore and other hospitals, Sub district hospital Tral, as per records, lacks adequate staff, doctors, health centres and high tech machineries as all other SDHs were upgraded with all the facilities unlike Sub district hospital Tral, which is considered as one of the oldest hospitals in Kashmir valley and hasnt been upgraded yet with such facilities even after the passing of three decades, due to which patients face inconveniences here.
The hospital despite being under the tag of Sub district hospital lacks Ophthalmologist, Orthopaedic, ENT, permanent Radiologist and other staff, as the hospital was upgraded only on papers with no creation of posts till the date .
Where as in Sub District Hospital Pampore and Community Health Centre Rajpora, all the posts were created and were made functional.
As per the official record, at present, SDH Tral has deficiency of 93 manpower, and as per the guidelines of Indian public health standard all these posts need to be created and fulfilled.
While comparing health sector of district Pulwama, Tral being 2nd in number as per population and has 5 to 7 PHCs less as compared to Pampore and Pulwama, with result 119 manpower is less than these two blocks including 30 doctors.
Despite lacking all this, the Radiologist as per hospital sources is officially posted at Tral but he only gives three days duty at the said hospital and four others days at District hospital Pulwama which is also the matter of grave concern.
The sources in hospital also revealed that a digital x-ray machine was also given to the sub district hospital Tral but after functioning for some months that got damaged and is yet to repaired for public conveniences, which is the matter of grave concern
Moreover, despite growing dog bite cases in Tral, the hospital is short of anti-rabies vaccine due to which patients involved in dog bite cases suffer as they either go Srinagar or Pulwama to get the vaccine there in order to treat dog bite cases.
It is pertinent to mention here that around 500 people have been bitten by stray dogs in last two years at Tral, as per the records available at hospital.
Keeping in view, all these things, authorities should ensure the official up-gradation of the said sub district hospital to make it equal to other SDHs.
To conclude, I can say that, health care facilities in Tral sub district should be upgraded to mitigate the problems of the inhabitants of more than 105 villages, who could be seen suffering always in and around the main hospital and other health centres in the sub district.
