SRINAGAR Parents are anguished as several private schools have barred students from parking two-wheelers on premises.
A delegation of parents told Kashmir Observer that the school heads are not allowing their wards to park their two-wheelers inside the school premises thus creating problems.
The school bus fair of my son is too high; it was not affordable for me, so I brought a scooty for him but unfortunately he has been asked to leave the scooty outside his school, said a Parent Gulraz Ahmad, of Khanyar, whose son is enrolled in Tyndale Biscoe School.
Last week, the Traffic Police warned strict action against students found riding two-wheelers without valid documents and crash helmets.
Sr. Superintendent of Police, Traffic, City Srinagar said it has been noticed that the students of different educational institutions within the limits of City Srinagar ride Scotties/Motorcycles as a mode of transportation by violating various rules of Motor Vehicles Act.
In a statement, he said that the heads of the schools and parents are requested not to allow the school children to drive Scotties/Motorcycles without a crash helmet, driving licenses and other valid documents.
He also requested the heads of the educational institutions to advise the students to follow the traffic rules properly.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Sonam Dechan told Kashmir Observer that they have requested both the parents and School heads not to allow the students to ride two-wheelers without documents and helmet.
So what is wrong in it, its for their own safety, he said. When asked why schools dont allow parking of two-wheelers he said we have only requested about documents and helmet, and have not asked anyone regarding the parking.
Parvez Samuel Koul, Principal and Director of the Tyndale Biscoe and Mallinson, said, We dont have much space inside the school premises to provide parking for everyone, that is why we disallowed students to carry the two-wheelers inside the school.
When asked if students carry valid documents and hamlets why they arent being allowed he said they cant allow parking for every student.
