Authorities Inspect Drugstores Around JLNM hospital

SRINAGAR — Nearly a week after seizure of expired surgical items and medicines from the Jawahar Lal Nehru Memorial(JLNM) Hospital at Rainawari here, authorities Monday  carried out an inspection of several drugstores in the vicinity of the healthcare facility.  

Assistant Drug Controller Srinagar along with Drug Inspectors of district Srinagar carried out comprehensive inspection of Zuhaib Medicose, Elixir Medicate, New World Care Medicose, Fazili Medicate, New Health zone, K.I. Medicate, Sheikh’s Pharmacy, World Care near, The Urban Medicate, Pampori medicate, Masco Pharmacy, Chowdhary medicate, Biocare Medicate and Malik Medicate, according to an official statement.

During the drive team inspected 14 establishments wherein two showcause notices were issued to the retail establishments Zuhaib Medicose and Malik Medicate and the former’s licencse was suspended for various violations Viz a Viz Non maintenance of sale and purchase records, not storing drugs properly, unhygienic conditions of premises and non issuance of bills/cash memos for two days (30th to 31st 2019).

“During inspections on spot instructions were issued to the licensee holder’s for strict adherence to the conditions of the license. The Chemists were directed to maintain sale and purchase records of different drugs properly, maintain storage conditions of the drugs as per their requirement and issue bills/cash memos regularly,” the statement said.

During the drive they were sensitized to retain the photocopy of the prescription wherein Schedule H1 and Psychotropic drugs has been prescribed, for record and reference purpose so that misuse of such drug is contained. Many of the Drug Sale establishments were closed down on spot that were contravening certain clauses of Drug and Cosmetics Act.

“General public is informed through the medium of this notice to lodge complaints with regard to any violation/discrepancies encountered against any drug sale establishment on department’s helpline no. 0194-2495191 or e-mail at [email protected],” the statement said.

The district administration last Wednesday seized the stocks of surgical items and medicines at the Jawahar Lal Nehru Memorial hospital at Rainawari here after receiving a complaint of expired surgical items provided to a patient.

An official spokesman said the administration took action within one hour of receiving the complaint this morning and seized stocks of medical supplies to the hospital after undertaking initial investigations into the matter.

A committee was constituted to investigate the matter and fix responsibilities. It comprises officers from cross section of departments to ensure though and fair investigations.
