NEW DELHI — The militant outfit Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen, has been banned by the government, the Home Ministry said Wednesday.

In a notification, the Home Ministry said the central government believes that the Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen (TuM) is involved in militancy as it has committed and participated in various acts of militancy in India and its members are getting financial and logistic support from their handlers based abroad.

The ministry said the Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen came into existence in 1990 with the objective of “liberation of Kashmir” and has been actively pursuing the same by way of acts of militancy.

Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen Says, Ban An ‘Election Plank

The Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen (TeM) Wednesday termed the ban imposed by Government of India on it as an ‘election plank’ by Narendra Modi led Government.

Pertinently, the Home Ministry of India issued a notification on Wednesday stating the TeM outfit has been banned as it believes that it is involved in “terrorism as it has committed and participated in various acts of terrorism in India and its members are getting financial as well as logistic support from their handlers based abroad.”

A spokesperson from the outfit in statement to news agency CNS said that TeM doesn’t believe or practice terrorism unlike India. The spokesperson alleged it is India that is resorting to terrorism in Kashmir. “India should understand that TeM came into existence to liberate Kashmir after India failed to resolve this long pending issue from 1947 to 1989. India should also keep it in mind that the militants affiliated with TeM helped Amarnath Yatra pilgrims during difficult time. TeM is not a terrorist organization but fighting for the people of Kashmir who are sacrificing everything for the just Cause,” he said.

The TeM said that India has converted Kashmir into a prison. “India that fought its freedom struggle against British under Gandhi and Bhagat Singh is suppressing the sentiments of people of Kashmir. The resolution of Kashmir issue is in the interest of India. It should resolve this issue in the light of UN Resolution. This way this country can get over the poverty and hunger,” the spokesperson said.
