PDP Falling Apart, Don’t Take Mehbooba Seriously: Governor

Share

JAMMU — Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik said on Wednesday that nobody should take former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s statements seriously as her PDP was breaking up and she was trying to save the party by commenting against the forces and India’s political system.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a function here, Malik said: “Elections are round the corner, her party is breaking up. Her party is in a bad shape.

“She had come to power by stirring anti-India sentiments. Nobody should take her statements seriously,” he said while dismissing Mufti’s demand for action against an Army officer.

Malik’s remarks come a day after Mufti demanded action against one Major Shukla, who allegedly tortured a Pulwama resident, Tauseef Wani, at the Shadimarg camp of the Army and threatened to kill him in an encounter.

The Governor said he stood behind the army and would not allow the such statements to demoralise the security forces.

“She doesn’t need to be taken seriously. We will not allow the morale of the security forces to be affected by statements like that of Mehbooba Mufti,” Mailk told reporters here.

“I stand by our forces. Wherever there are atrocities, we take action. In some such cases with regard to the police force, we are taking action and are transferring all of them (erring police personnel). But we still stand with our forces,” he added.

Malik alleged that Mufti’s demand was aimed at gaining public support ahead of the upcoming state assembly elections

PDP Chief Hits Back, Omar Too Flays Malik’s Remarks

Former chief ministers Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah reacted sharply to governor’s statement brushing aside concerns over army’s beating of a youth in Pulwama.

Taking to twitter, the PDP president said that instead of taking “cognizance of the brutality the young boy has faced and ordering action against the culprits, governor is playing politics.”

“Instead of taking cognizance of the brutality that the young boy has been subjected to, and ordering action against the culprits , it is sad that the honourable governor is talking politics instead. Saddened to see the constitutional authorities taking sides so brazenly.”

Omar Abdullah, who is National Conference’s Vice President  also hit out at governor for his remarks on Mehbooba Mufti and termed his statement as unacceptable.

“Governor Sb this is an unacceptable statement & an unnecessary interference in politics. At this rate it won’t be long before people stop taking Raj Bhavan seriously so please consider the office you occupy before you give statements,” he tweeted.
