HC Seeks Action On Poplar Menace Within 4 Weeks

Share

SRINAGAR — The Jammu and Kashmir High Court on Tuesday asked the government to inform it about further course of action to identify the Russian species of poplars whose pollens cause health hazards in Kashmir.

Hearing a petition, a division bench of Justices Ali Muhammad Magrey and Sanjeev Kumar asked state’s additional advocate general, Asifa Padroo, to inform the court within four weeks about further plan to deal with the pollen menace.

The court passed orders after the AAG urged that government be granted four weeks time to implement the court ordered dated 26 December 2018.

On December 26 last year the government had informed the court that a survey conducted by Social Forestry Department has attested the pollens from the female Russian poplars species as allergic. The Court had asked the government to come up with action plan to deal with the situation.

The Court was also informed it that Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) Awantipora on poplars in Kashmir has also prepared a report on benefits of poplar trees as well their environmental degradation.
