E-Receipts Can Save 10 Million Trees

Share

As humans, we must know these small but very important things which can be used to solve many problems in our lives and help us in our day to day problems.

We have a huge challenge ahead in reaching a safer world, a more efficient economy, and a more sustainable environment.

A purse or wallet brimming with paper receipts is a familiar sight for many shoppers and local people. Forgoing 55,000 receipts can spare an entire tree, and it only takes a dollar in donations for Reseed to plant a tree.

In a digital world, every one of us is using credit cards/debit cards and other electronic media for money transitions and received an paper receipt in turn. But do you know millions of trees, were cut down and a million gallons of water were used for making the Paper receipts. Deforestation has been linked to ethnic, religious and political instability across the world. Creating positive change doesn’t require a monumental societal shift. Small decisions about even smaller pieces of paper can go a long way.

The life span of a receipt is only a few seconds. Around 640,0000 tons of thermal receipts are printed every year. It takes up to 10 million trees,  21 billion gallons of water and 250 million gallons of oil every year to produce these receipts and generating 1.5 billion pounds of waste. All of this creates a costly problem for retailers, consumers, and above all else, our environment.

Reseed’s strategy is prevention and remediation — not only can we curb deforestation by encouraging consumers and retailers to adopt e-receipts, but we can also reverse some of the damage with the money saved. E-receipts are often promoted as a way to save paper, and that’s certainly true.

The systematic use of paper receipts are dangerous and Toxic and have negative impacts on public health. So avoid the habitual use of paper receipts and choose the digital ones…

Thermal receipt paper also contains a harmful chemical, Bisphenol-A, which has been linked to various forms of cancer and instantly disqualifies receipt paper from recycling.

I think we have a very easy solution, instead of making paper receipts the default, let’s make electronic receipts or email receipts, the default. And you can get a paper receipt by request.

The advantages of using e-receipts would be:

  • We can save a million gallons of water.
  • By saving paper we can save millions of tree.
  • We reduce the huge amount of paper waste.

so our little contribution will definitely avail us to preserve our pulchritudinous environment. The cull is yours “paper receipt or e-receipts”…..
