Violence During CASO, 3 Power Transformers Damaged, Bike Set On Fire

KULGAM — Residents of Tarigam village of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district Monday accused soldiers of harassment and damaging of three power transformers besides setting a motor-cycle on fire during a Cordon and Search Operation there.

 Reports said that clashes broke out after government forces launched a cordon and search operation in Tarigami village.

 The operation according to sources was launched after forces received information about the presence of militants in the Mukdam Mohalla of the village.

Reports said that soon after they launched the search operation at Tarigam village scores of the youth came out and pelted stones on forces  to disrupt the CASO. Police deployed their  retaliated with tear gas shells to disperse the protestors.

Residents said in a bid to terrorize locals forces damaged three power transformers. “They  let loose a reign of terror. A parked motorcycle was burnt down by them. We have been facing power shortage already, now the area will reel under darkness due to damage caused to transformers by soldiers,” they said.

They said that a couple of locals also sustained pellet injuries.

A police official said that they are investigating the matter.  (CNS)
