SRINAGAR The weatherman on Monday predicted another spell of rain and snowfall from this evening up to February 8 which might affect the traffic on the highway once again.
Under the influence of western disturbance, scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rain or snowfall would occur over the state from Monday evening.
“The distribution and intensity of the rain or snow will increase thereafter with fairly widespread to widespread rain or snow with effect from February 5 to 8, an official of the Met department said.
He said the system will move forwrard from north-west to south-east of Jammu and Kashmir and again Pripanjal range from Bhaderwah to Baramulla will receive heavy rain snow especially on February 6 and 7.
The system is likely to cause widespread rain/snow with heavy to very heavy rain/snow mainly in South Kashmir, Pirpanjal Range (Doda, Batote, Badeewah, Ramban, Banihal and Baramulla) including Jawahar Tunnel.
Meanwhile, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir has directed the Deputy Commissioners of all these districts to advise the people living in avalanche prone areas not to venture out to avoid the loss of lives.
Further, the DCs are directed to activate their Control Rooms and ensure snow clearance equipments are placed at proper places for snow clearance in respect of their districts as per the snow clearance plan.
Besides, they are also requested to take all the precautionary measures and to keep the SDRF, Police and Para-medical staff with ambulances in readiness to avert any untoward incident.
On Monday, the minimum temperature in Srinagar was minus 2.4 degrees Celsius while in Pahalgam and Gulmarg it was minus 8.6.
Leh recorded minus 13.2 degrees Celsius, Kargil minus 16.6 and Drass minus 22.7 as their minimum.
Jammu city had 8.2 degrees Celsius, Katra 7.8, Batote 0.8, Bannihal 0.7 and Bhaderwah minus 2.0.
