SRINAGAR A complete shutdown was observed across Kashmir on Sunday against the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi even as authorities suspended interner services in the Valley.
Shops and business establishments were closed and traffic off the roads in summer capital Srinagar and other parts of the Valley
Curfew-like restrictions were imposed in the city while sharp shooters were keeping an eagle eye across the Srinagar city.
Large contingents of forces personnel were seen manning the streets at the majority of places.
Reports said that a complete shutdown was also observed in south Kashmirs Shopian, Pulwama, Kulgam, and Islamabad districts. There was a shutdown in North Kashmir as well.
Internet services on mobile devices were snapped in Kashmir on Sunday.
“Internet services were snapped shortly after midnigh by authorities as part of efforts to ensure that the Prime Minister’s visit passes off smoothly,” officials said.
The train service was suspended.
Joint Resistance Leadership has called for a complete shutdown in the valley to protest against Modi’s visit.
Several pro-freedom leaders including Hurriyat Conference-M chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and former MLA Langate Sheikh Abdul Rasheed were placed under house arrest since Saturday.
