Rajya Sabha Clears Quota Bill

NEW DELHI — The Rajya Sabha on Wednesday cleared bill to provide 10 per cent reservation in jobs and educational institutions to economically poor among the general category.

The bill, which was pased by the Lok Sabha on Tuesday evening, will now have to be signed by the President.

Introduced by Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Thaawar Chand Gehlot, it was cleared by majority of the members (319) voting for it in Lok Sabha, and four against. The Bill allows 10% quota in employment and education for the general category candidates who belong to the economically weaker sections.
